The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados, and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), in association with the Global Fund for Disaster Risk Reduction (GFDRR) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) are conducting a national training workshop on Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) methodology.

The workshop which will be held at the Grenada National Stadium, from Tuesday July 5 th to Friday 8 th , 2016 is part of the GFDRRfunded Strengthening Capacity in PDNA in the Caribbean Project, implemented by UNDP Barbados and the OECS.

Among the aims of the workshop are to review PDNA capacity in seven (7) countries within Barbados and the OECS as well as train national participants in PDNA and associated methodologies, and develop a mechanism for continued regional capacity development in PDNA.

PDNA is a joint process that provides coordinated assistance to Governments in assessing the socioeconomic consequences of disasters and offering support in the development of country specific recovery strategies.

Candidates for this training exercise include civil servants and international development consultants with experience in recovery, who also would be available to provide support and conduct other PDNA training.

The workshop was previously scheduled for September 2015 but was postponed due to the disaster events in Dominica.
