Beausejour, Carriacou- The National Training Agency (NTA) hosted a three (3) day workshop of consultation with Traditional Boat Builders on the sister-isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

The workshop, which engaged over thirteen (13) Traditional Boat Builders, was geared towards developing the standards of traditional boat building on the sister-isles. The standards developed will then be used to certify practitioners of the trade with CVQ’s and NVQ’s qualification.

National Training Agency Standards and Planning Coordinator, Mr. Roderick Griffith, said that the NTA is fully aware of the high level of experience in the area of Traditional Boat Building on the sister-isles and they ought not to let it fade away.

He added that taping in on the wealth of knowledge and experience of the boat builders is not only in the effort for certification, but also for documentation to convert to international standards.

Griffith, in closing, noted that the information on Traditional Boat Building cannot be received anywhere else in the region, but Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
