ST GEORGE’S, GRENADA (CARIBUPDATE/OCT 29, 2016) – Nicholas Brathwaite, the island’s first post-revolutionary leader has died, family sources say.
He was head of an interim government for one year after US forces invaded Grenada in 1983, and then returned as the elected Prime Minister as leader of the National Democratic Congress between 1990 and 1995.
Family sources said Brathwaite, had been ailing for some time, but his health further deteriorated in the last two weeks.
He died at his family home at 11:30 PM Friday night in St George’s.
Brathwaite, who also umpired a regional first class cricket match in 1970, was 91.
