Grenada is doing its part to assist Hurricane Stricken Caribbean territories; Dominica being the latest victim of Hurricane Maria will receive support from Government’s End.
Speaking to Real FM following the passage of Hurricane Maria, Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Minister Clarice Modeste outlined a number of initiatives being done by her various Ministries.
She pointed to a National Benefit event done similar to the one held in November of 2015 to assist Dominica which was ravaged by tropical Storm Erica at that Period; “ The Ministry of Culture through the Advisor Former Culture Minister Brenda Hood is expected to meet with various promoters here to organize some benefit activity.”
Support will be generated under the Airports Authority; which falls under her Civil Aviation Ministry.
“The airport officials are very touched by the happenings in Dominica; when our airport was down following the passage of Ivan technical teams came to our rescue from the island. A few Airport officials will visit their country and help get things back in order. Also, they have pledged 10,000 up from which will be contributed to the pool at National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) for Dominica.”
However Wendy Francette Williams outlined that the $10,000 was an initial trench,” That is just an initial trench of $10,000.We are willing after a full assessment of Dominica in particular, we will then say how much we are going to give after that.”
Modeste additionally used the opportunity to challenge local media throwing her backing behind whatever benefit initiatives they will undertake.
