United States Southern Command Provides More Equipment To Emergency Operations Centre In Carriacou

Proper record keeping and warehouse management will now be practiced by the National Disaster Management Agency Carriacou Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). This is being made possible with help from the US Southern Command, which has retrofitted the Emergency Operations Centre at Belair.

The Southern Command has provided the centre with such things as a modern visual arts system and a computerized data entry system for the warehouse, as well as other equipment including a forklift.

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Javan Williams, toured the newly retrofitted facility. He said the Ministry, led by Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon Tevin Andrews, is very appreciative of the tangible contributions from the United States Government in the area of disaster management.

“This will improve the level of disaster management on the island considerably,’’ PS Williams said.

To ensure the Emergency Operations Centre operates in an efficient and effective manner, training was conducted in EOC Organization and Operations and Disaster Relief Warehouse and Forklift Operations.

The trainers were Michael Klobucar and Leo Goldstein from the United States.
