Youth In Groovy Project Advances With Successful Development Workshops

The Youth in Groovy (YIG) project launched its first of 4 development workshops on Saturday, featuring 20 talented semi-finalists.

These young artistes showcased their impressive skills, performing with the renowned Prestige D Band. The workshop, which focused on vocal training, sportsmanship, performance techniques, and band rehearsal, highlighted our youth’s incredible potential and passion for the arts.

Kelvin Jacob, YIG Creative Director, remarked, “These workshops are designed to nurture the talents of young people, equipping them with essential skills for success in the music industry. Today’s session was inspiring, with many participants performing with a band for the first time, marking the start of an exciting journey.”

Echoing this sentiment, Wrenroy “Blaka Dan” Ogiste, Founder of YIG, emphasised, “We are committed to nurturing the next generation of musical talent, preparing them for future competitions with confidence and experience. This initiative provides a platform for young talents to gain exposure and connect with industry professionals, which is needed in Grenada — mentorship opportunities.”

The positive impact of the workshop was also highlighted by Nisha Hannibal, a teacher at GBSS, who praised the initiative, stating, “Participants learned valuable performance techniques, voice control, and articulation. The camaraderie and sportsmanship among students from different schools were excellent, and it was encouraging to see diverse age groups singing local groovy music.”

Looking ahead, the next event in the Youth in Groovy project is the semifinal, set for Saturday, 15 June, at the Tanteen Netball Court, starting at 5 pm, with gates opening at 4 pm. This event promises vibrant performances and exceptional talent. Tickets are available at participating schools, Grenadian Optical, and go2fete, priced at $10 for children and $20 for adults. The community is encouraged to support these young artistes as they compete for a spot in the finals.

The Youth in Groovy Competition Series is proudly sponsored by Power 95.1 FM, Huggins, Bermudez, Blue Bubble PA Rental and Sound Company, Elvira’s Garden, Go2Fete, Grenadian Optical, Jambalasee Grenada, Grenada Fast Print, and Protonic Solutions.
