The Spicemas Corporation (SMC) successfully hosted the first in a series of Judges’ Workshops for the 2025 Carnival season on Saturday, May 24th, at the Olympic Center in Morne Rouge. The five-hour training session welcomed twenty-nine (29) prospective judges and featured interactive segments facilitated by Mr. Colin Dowe.
Day one of the workshop focused on foundational principles of judging, including general ethics, proper use of scoring sheets, and core judging methodologies. Participants also received an introduction to the various judging categories: Power Soca, Groovy Soca, Calypso, Traditional Mas, and Fancy Mas.
These workshops are part of SMC’s annual initiative to promote accuracy, consistency, and integrity in judging across all carnival events. By standardizing the understanding of competition criteria, SMC aims to ensure fair and transparent assessments throughout the Carnival season.
Two additional sessions are scheduled for Saturday, May 31st, and Saturday, June 7th, as SMC continues to enhance the expertise of judges participating in national competitions.
