Grenada Invitational and the Olympics
The 2020 Summer Olympics will take place from July 24th – August 09th in Tokyo Japan. Many of the World’s top Athletes will be using the 4th annual Grenada Invitational, on Saturday April 04th , as an opportunity to continue preparations for these Olympics.
Grenada Invitational Inc. will use the occasion to recognise the 43 or so athletes who have represented Grenada at the Summer Olympics since 1984. A special parade of these Athletes will be held and their accomplishments and achievements highlighted.
One of the persons who will form part of that elite group is former National boxer, Bernard Wilson. Mr. Wilson has the distinction of being the first flag-bearer for Grenada at an Olympic Games. Bernard who competed in the welter-weight division won one fight at the Los Angeleshosted games in 1984. Bunny as he is now affectionately known is currently the President of the national Tennis Association.
Another former athlete who will be featured on April 04th is Clint Williams. Clint was part of the 4x 400m relay team which competed in Atlanta in 1996. Clint was an outstanding all round sprinter wining gold in the 100m, 200m and 400m at the Windward Island games in 1997. During that year he also competed at the Penn Relays before damaging a ligament in his ankle during a football match. After extensive rehabilitation Clint made a comeback to prominence in 2000 at the National Champs, but further ankle injuries derailed what was certainly a very promising career.
Today Clint Williams runs the family upholstery business at Paradise, St. Andrew and puts his Level 2 IAAF Certification to very good use by being very actively involved in track and field in St. Andrew.
