The Ministry of Health – Government of Grenada, earlier this morning received another brand-new, real-time quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine.
The machine along with a multi-tube rack centrifuge, a vortex mixer, a table centrifuge and thermostat water bath were donated by the Peoples of Republic of China (PRC) to the Government and People of Grenada.
The (PRC’s) resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Grenada, H.E. Dr Zhao Yongchen, in presenting the gifts described Grenada’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic thus far as remarkable and added that China was happy to render assistance to the spice-isle.
He also used the opportunity to highlight the very strong relationship both countries enjoy, and further pledging China’s continued support in areas of agriculture, housing, culture, education and health among others.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Peter David received the medical equipment on behalf of the Grenadian Government and thanked the Ambassador, his Government and people for the gift.
The donation is valued at over 77,000.00 USD.
ABOUT PCR: The thermal cycler (also known as a thermocycler, PCR machine or DNA amplifier) is a laboratory apparatus most commonly used to amplify segments of DNA via the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The cycler then raises and lowers the temperature of the block in discrete, pre-programmed steps.
