Grenada is the newest member of World Skills America (WSA). Grenada’s application for membership to the 26-member organization was approved in July 2018. The Government of Grenada has approved the National Training Agency (NTA) as the representative body and implementing agency. Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lincoln Morgan was appointed Official Delegate and Training Support Coordinator, Mr. Garvin Glasgow as Technical Delegate.
As part of the requirements for membership, Grenada was invited to attend the General Assembly and Leaders Forum of World Skills Americas held in Santiago, Chile from October 1-8, 2018 and to make an introductory presentation on Grenada. Grenada’s representative at WSA was Technical Delegate, Mr. Garvin Glasgow. Other countries participating in the Assembly included Bonaire, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Peru.
Seven skill areas were contested across three cities in Chile as part of the Skills Competition event in areas such as Cybersecurity, Landscape and Gardening, Photo Voltaic Systems, Micro Irrigation Systems, Network Cabling, and Mobil Robotics. Bonaire won silver medal in the PV Installation, second to Peru and ahead of Colombia, Brazil, and Chile. A major achievement for a tiny Caribbean island.
World Skills Americas provided opportunities for networking with several members willing to assist Grenada in building its capacity in various skill and technical areas.
