Government Engages Young Men In Petite Martinique In Furniture Making

Beausejour, Carriacou: Fifteen young men on the sister-isle of Petite Martinique are presently undertaking training in furniture making under the New Imani Program led by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and the Arts in collaboration with the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs.

The initiative’s purpose is to enhance the skills of young men on the island in an effort to promote furniture making and boat building as a viable business option.

Youth Coordinator, Norman Gilbert, said that the project became a reality with the support from the Caribbean Local Economic Development Project (CARILED) and the Petite Martinique Fishermen’s Cooperative who have provided the necessary equipment and use of the facility.

He added that the National Training Agency (NTA) also played an integral part in ensuring that the necessary standards are available for the training.

Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart, noted that the initiative is in keeping with the Government’s mandate towards youth development in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Minister Stewart further assured the young people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique that she’ll do all in her power to ensure that Carriacou and Petite Martinique receive its fair share, not only in youth development, but in every aspect.
