Beausejour, Carriacou – The Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government and the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority, on Thursday, held a discussion and visited the Dumfries Landfill site in Carriacou.
The discussion was surrounding the issue of security and waste management at the site.
Allison Neptune, Acting General Manager of Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority, in an on site interview said that the main purpose of the visit by the GSWMA was to get the input of the community in best designing a project to address the unpleasant situation at the landfill.
He added that the proposed plan consists of proper fencing, daily covering and a tipping area.
Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart, said that she’s extremely happy for the movement on the issue regarding waste disposal at the landfill.
She also stated that funds have been allocated for the project in the 2019 budget and work should begin within the first quarter of the new year.
