On October 9, H.E. Dr. Zhao Yongchen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Grenada and Hon. Norland Cox, Minister for Youth Development, Sports, Culture & the Arts of Grenada exchanged the Letters on the Renovation Project of Grenada National Cricket Stadium. According to the Exchange of Letters, the Chinese government will provide grant fund to renovate the Cricket Stadium. The estimated cost is 30 million EC dollars.
H.E. Ambassador Zhao Yongchen said that the renovation project marked a new step for the friendly cooperation between China and Grenada. China will continue to support the social and economic development of Grenada. Hon. Minister Norland Cox expressed his sincere appreciation to the Chinese government and people for the generous assistance.
In 2004, Hurricane Ivan devastated both Grenada National Cricket Stadium and Athletic Stadium. In 2005 and 2013, the Chinese government provided grant assistance of 88 million EC dollars and 60 million EC dollars respectively to rebuild the two Stadiums. In July 2019, the Chinese government dispatched a team to carry out a 3-year maintenance project for the Athletic Stadium.
