ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – For the third time in four matches, Jamal Charles scored a game-winning goal in the second half to earn Grenada a win in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League, this time in a 1-0 triumph over French Guiana in Group A of League B on Sunday night at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.
Grenada came out the more aggressive of the two sides, but on top of the goalless draw between the two sides last Thursday, a 0-0 halftime scoreline meant a full 135 minutes with no ball hitting the back of the net for either the Spice Boys or Les Yana Dokos.
Charles almost broke the deadlock in the 56’, but his shot from short distance was well-saved by GK Simon Lugier.
One minute later, things took a turn when Ricky Modeste was sent off with a red card for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, leaving the hosts with 10 men.
But the Modeste red card seemed to inspire Grenada even more, and it was Charles who summoned the speed and power to blaze a shot past Lugier to give Grenada a 1-0 lead in the 65’ that held until the final whistle.
