According to CIMH, the late wet season month of November was drier than normal in much of the region, adding to water stress in those countries, entering the dry season.
As the region continues through the rest of the 2020 dry season, concerns exist for both short term and long-term drought in the stated islands.
Even more countries will have concerns over long term drought that can influence large rivers and reservoirs, and groundwater by the end of the 2020 dry season on May 31st.
In light of this, the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) reminds the general public of the need to develop a habit of having adequate storage, as we brace for what is forecasted to be an intense dry season, one when every drop of rainfall and water counts.
NAWASA is committed to meeting the needs of every consumer; however, individuals are also reminded of their personal responsibility to ensure they collect and store a minimum of 35 gallons of water, per person, per day for a three-day period, taking into consideration the needs of their households and pets.
The public is being reminded that drought conditions can have significant impact on our water system’s ability to provide an adequate and reliable water supply to all serving consumers.
