The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association has named the five-member team who will represent Grenada at the UANA Swimming Cup 2020 in Peru. While 5 swimmers are participating at this meet, it is significant to note that 11 of Grenada’s National swimmers qualified to participate at the UANA cup this year, a qualifying level that speaks well for the ongoing development of swimming in the country.
The Union Americana de Natacion, or UANA, is the regional governing body for aquatic sports in the Americas. UANA’s existence dates back to the 1948 Olympic Games in London. This significant meet, only in its second staging, will be held at The Videna Aquatic Complex, in Lima, Peru, February 21- 23, 2020.

Zone 1––CCCAN: Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, US Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Turks & Caicos, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago
Zone 2––CONSANAT: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Paraguay, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela
Zone 3 — United States of America
Zone 4 — Canada
The event boasts 3 age groups for swimmers aged 11-12, 13-14, and 15-17 as is done at CARIFTA and CCCAN Swimming Championships and will be competed in long course meters. There will be only timed finals at this competition.

Preparations have been underway since 2019 as many swimmers were aiming to make the qualifying standard. Training has intensified over the past few weeks for the participating swimmers under the direction of Coach Damique Walters. Chad Hyson will accompany the team as Manager.
Swimmers depart Grenada on February 18th in advance of the competition, which commences on February 21st, and are scheduled to return on February 24th. GASA has every confidence in the team’s ability to perform well and attain some personal best performances at the UANA Cup.
