COVID-19: T&T Closes Borders To Non-Nationals For 14 Days

(looptt)-Trinidad and Tobago has closed its land and sea borders to non-nationals of the country for fourteen days. It takes effect at midnight on Tuesday 17 March.

Prime Minister Keith Rowley made the announcement today at a media briefing following a special meeting of the Cabinet on Monday morning.

“We have to isolate ourselves from a source of the virus that is outside of our country. The Cabinet has taken a decision that T&T will cease to encourage and facilitate entry into our country for the next 14 days of non-nationals.”

The Prime Minister did say that some exceptions would be made, for example in the case of health care workers attached to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

CARPHA is the only laboratory accredited to confirm cases of COVID-19 and has an office in Federation Park, St Clair.
