It is with deep sadness we hear of the passing of our beloved Pannis and Cultural icon David ‘Peck’ Edwards. The foundation is forever grateful for the unrelenting stalwart contribution he has made to culture. ‘Peck’ as he is affectionately called, left no stone unturned in defending the pan movement in Grenada and was indeed a force to reckon with as a producer /composer of music. His contribution to the teaching of pan music to numerous young persons and old alike will always be an outstanding hallmark in his illustrious career.
There is no question that he has been one of the best that lived among us ensuring that the Pan instrument, which is truly Caribbean, has a place in the world’s music hall of fame. Peck often placed this cherished instrument alongside the piano, violin, or any other instrument and held it to high esteem. He often revered the versatility of the pan and its ability to adapt to any occasion, be it classical or casual. Peck’s love for pan was unmatched.
A stallion in culture has departed this realm and has left huge shoes to fill, for his time on this earth was never wasted and he served us well. We are eternally grateful for his dedication and commitment to culture. He gave of his very best and never reneged on his commitments.
To those who mourn on his passing, we extend condolences especially to his entire family and that of the Steelband community. We appreciate pan more each day as a result of the invaluable contributions from people such as Peck and all the others who transformed pan to its rightful place in our society. We are hopeful that those who are still with us will continue to defend and hold pan in the highest order in homage to David Peck Edwards.
