The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) is looking forward to the winter season with direct flights from major Tourism markets resuming to Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique providing enhanced connectivity, and authentic experiences that meet the needs of the new age traveller.
Grenada, deemed safe for travel by the US Center for Disease Control (CDC), was accredited by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) with its coveted ‘Safe travels Stamp’ and is free from any travel notice as the likelihood of contracting COVID-19 is very low. No quarantine is required upon return to the UK as Grenada sits in its government-approved ‘travel corridor’.
The Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) welcomed UK direct flights from October 26 starting with Virgin Atlantic Airways flying twice weekly from London Heathrow. This was the first long haul flight returning to Grenada since March. Passengers were specially welcomed by the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) with steel pan music, drumming and Pure Grenada goodie bags featuring locally made products. British Airways was also specially welcomed by the GTA on Wednesday October 28 with twice-weekly flights from London Gatwick. American Airlines, JetBlue and Air Canada have already resumed flights to the destination.
As a small destination, Pure Grenada, the Spice of the Caribbean, has everything a visitor would want to recover, rejuvenate and reignite their spirits in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. Chief Executive Officer of the GTA Patricia Maher says, “Indeed Grenada has always been the desired destination for people looking for an authentic island experience with an abundance of nature and freedom, over 40 white sandy beaches, more than 15 waterfalls, numerous rainforest hiking trails, several Sulphur springs and the finest yachting and diving. The destination’s focus is to build on its sustainable assets as a country to meet the needs of the new normal in Tourism.”
Since COVID-19, the destination has been sharing its Grenada Dreaming campaign messages, combined with a Paradise at Home theme for local Tourism which have been very successful. Presently, the GTA’s Pure Grenada Just for You campaign appeals to regional and international visitors with health and safety first. The GTA is further enhancing this campaign today by launching foreign language videos in Spanish, French and German to highlight to visitors all over the world that Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique is open for business and ready to welcome them with pure safe experiences. The videos which will be launched on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube @discovergrenada will begin with the Spanish version, done by Grenada’s Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Climate Resilience and the Environment Hon. Dr.Clarice Modeste-Curwen. For more information on travelling to Grenada visit https://www.puregrenada.com/travel-advisory
