Smart Health Care Facility Handed Over To Health Care Workers In Carriacou

BEAUSEJOUR, CARRIACOU: Works on the newly upgraded and renamed ‘Hillsborough Smart Health Centrer’ in Carriacou, is now complete.

Keys to the facility were handed over to health care workers there on Wednesday, March 24, in preparation for an official handover ceremony next month.

The project was implemented under the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) Smart Health Care Facilities in the Caribbean Project, which seeks to provide safer and greener health facilities to deliver care in times of disasters.

The EC $1.6 million project was funded through the United Kingdom Department for International Development (UK-DFID).

During the handover, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs & Local Government, Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart, , expressed optimism that the project would positively impact the delivery of primary health care services to the people of Carriacou.

She added that as part of its commitment towards the improvement of the health care system, the Government of Grenada will continue to partner with PAHO, UK-DFID and other agencies on other projects, such as the Petite Martinique Health Centre.

The transformative project involved the installation of a new roof, inner and outer walls, windows and doors, water tank and pump, fuel tank and generator, cupboards, vanity, plumbing, electrical and air conditioning systems.

Contractor, Rupert Mc Intosh, of Beq-Mac Grenada Inc., in outlining the scope of work, said he is extremely happy with the quality of work rendered by the team of local construction workers from Carriacou.

He added that the improved resilience of the facility will better enable it to withstand natural disasters such as hurricanes if they are to occur.
