It was an exciting day of fun and festivities for some sixty children from the community of Harveyvale and surrounding areas recently, as the Sandals Foundation extended their outreach mission to the island of Carriacou.
Packed with toys from their partners at United States company, Hasbro, a team of Sandals Foundation ambassadors shared gifts, schools supplies and a day of fun and games in collaboration with the clergy of the St. Lawrence R.C. Church in Harveyvale. The day’s activities also saw the donation of over 100 books to the L’Esterre Primary School Library to bolster its literary catalogue.
Deleon Forrester, Public Relations Manager at Sandals Grenada and Sandals Foundation Ambassador says the activity forms part of the philanthropic arm’s effort to bring joy to even more communities.
“We are so happy to have been able to organize this, our very first outreach on the sister isle of Carriacou. It is our mission to reach as many of our communities as possible, supporting their educational infrastructure and assisting in their social needs in any way we can,” Forrester said.
The distributed books and school supplies are a staple donation from Sandals Resort guests who, through the foundation’s partnership with the United States non-profit, Pack for a Purpose® are encouraged to carry along in their suitcases 5lbs of supplies to share with local schools and communities. Items include notebooks, pencils, crayons, pens and other stationery that are compulsory for students.
Sister Superior Kiron Jyoti at the St. Lawrence R.C. Church expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, noting, “What a beautiful expression of care it is when people going on vacation decide to do a simple gesture of kindness to help children they do not know. Thank you Sandals Foundation for choosing to visit us here in Carriacou.”
Also sharing gratitude, was priest of the diocese, Father Andrew Barnard, “Education is the most important gateway to opportunity for our children. Thank you again for this spectacular donation of books, school supplies and toys. We hope you can join us again to reach even more children in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.”
In March, the Sandals Foundation celebrated 12 years of service to the Caribbean through its support of and implementing life changing programmes in the areas of community development, education and environment.
