GIS:The Government of Grenada is urging Grenadians to be vigilant about potential scams given the continued impersonation of Government Ministers on social media platforms.
Scammers use a practice referred to as spoofing to lure unsuspecting persons.
Spoofing essentially means “the act of disguising communication from an unknown source, as coming from a known or trusted source”.
Government reiterates the position that Ministers do not initiate contact with members of the
public via private or direct messages on social media platforms.
The usual practice is for Minister to respond to queries submitted by persons via private messages, but contact will not be initiated using such means.
The public is reminded that no Government process requires persons to use money transfer
agencies to send money to receive any Government document or promise of financial assistance.
The population is advised to stay alert while using social media and to be aware of scammers.
Further, if persons are uncertain about a digital service, website, Facebook, or WhatsApp message, they can contact the Chief Information Officer at 423-1109.
