St George’s: A request, from nurses at the Gouyave Health Centre (GHC) in St John for pulse oximeters, has been met by Grenada’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Arley Gill.
Gill, a St John native and lawyer, recently delivered a package of supplies to the centre, which also serves the Parish of St Mark. The package included 25 oximeters, as well as other items such as N95 masks, face shields and sanitizer.
An oximeter, a device that is usually placed on a fingertip, estimates oxygen levels in the blood. There has been increased demand for the device in treating patients infected with the Coronavirus.
“The idea of the oximeter is that every nurse will have their personal device,’’ Gill said.
The request to Gill for the oximeters was presented in early October when he visited the GHC to make an initial donation of personal protective equipment and medical devices. At the time, he committed himself to continue supporting, in whatever way possible, the healthcare work of the GHC.
At the second recent presentation to the nurses, he told them he was able to secure the requested 25 pulse oximeters “with the assistance of some very good Grenadians in New York. I must give special mention to Nurse Addis Alexander, Nurse Denise Romney-Adams, Mr Sekou Johnson and Bonan Gill’’.
The nurses working at the Gouyave Health Centre, said Gill, “continue to be on the frontline. You continue to serve our people, putting yourself in danger. And, the least we can do, is to assist you in ensuring that you are protecting yourself and your family’’.
At a separate meeting with St Andrew North-West MP Delma Thomas, the minister responsible for Hospital and Community Health Services, Gill also made a donation of supplies. It’s for the Paraclete Medical Centre.
