United States Air Force Delivers Over 100 Computers Donated To Grenadian Students From The Virginia Star Program

A state-of-the art C-130 military aircraft landed at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) in Point Salines, St. George’s, with over 100 donated computers for Grenadian students and a rural women’s technology project.

The donation is a result of an initiative spearheaded by Mr. Jay Lightfoot of Northumberland High School Virginia STAR Program and Her Excellency Yolande Y. Smith at the Embassy of Grenada in Washington, DC. The STAR Program is a Training and Refurbishment program, which teaches students to refurbish surplus computer hardware.

The computers, donated to the VASTAR program by US government agencies, will be handed over to the Information Technology departments of the Westerhall, Boca and Happy Hill Secondary schools later this month in ceremony with Education, Foreign Affairs and US Embassy personnel.

On hand to receive the shipment at the MBIA was Mr. Matthew Simon, Protocol Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development.
