Hollice was nominated for Reggae and Dancehall Award because there is no Soca category, however, due to his uniqueness, love for the art form, astonishing and breath taking performances shared via social media and his ability to entertain he was nominated.
Hollice is breaking barriers all over the world he sees this as an opportunity to show the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) what the Caribbean is made of specifically Grenada.
The 9th Edition of the AFFRIMMA under the theme “This is Africa” is set to stage its annual award ceremony and Grenada’s son of the soil Hollice “MR. KILLA” Mapp has been nominated for best Reggae and Dancehall.
What’s even more amazing he was not only nominated but will wow the audience with his top-notch performance.
Hollice is amongst creme de la creme artist such as spice, Shensea, Popcaan, and Steff London all from Jamaica, Shatta whale from Ghana, and Patoran King from Nigeria.
While Hollice is known for his many contributions to the SOCA genre of music- this nomination can be considered as breaking barriers for the art form, considering that he is making history by being the first Soca Artist to be nominated for such an award.
Mr Killa began singing at the age of ten (10) but officially began his career by winning a teen contest at age of (15). Two years later he won his first National Soca Monarch in 2004 with “Thunder Rags.” This earned him a place at the renown international power Soca competition in Trinidad where he placed in the top five.
Mr. Killa is the first non-Trinidadian soca singer to win the International Power Soca Monarch but before coping such a title His hit song Rolly Polly captured the hearts of many around the world, an ode to plus-sized women.
He coped the title of International Soca Monarch in Trinidad in 2019 with his then-hit song “Run Wid It”.
This AFRIMMA nomination is simply adding to his many accomplishments, according to Hollice without God and the support of his mother he wouldn’t be who he is.
According to the AFRIMMA this edition is set to celebrate the stellar feat that African Music artists have achieved in the past year. Crossing boundaries with music has always been the fuel behind AFRIMMA awards and the body has consistently uplifted African Music on the world stage.
