Grenada: GASA Congratulates Anaika Otway For Securing Junior Sports Woman Of The Year award

The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association was delighted that the Junior Sports Woman of the Year award was captured by one of their national swimmers, breaststroker Anaika Otway. The Grenada Olympic Committee, on Saturday, held its annual National Sports Award Ceremony for nominees of last year, 2022.

During the annual National Sports Award Ceremony, awards were distributed in the disciplines of athletics, cricket, basketball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, bodybuilding, boxing, cycling, football, netball, triathlon, volleyball, Taekwondo, sailing and gun and rifle.

Anaika, who has been involved in competitive swimming at an early age, has participated in several regional and international events, including the Junior Worlds in Budapest in 2019 and the Worlds in Abu Dhabi, EAU in 2021.

Amidst her great performance in the sport, Anaika has matched her success with her academic performance in last year’s CSEC examinations, obtaining all eleven of the eleven subjects she did.

Anaika wasn’t the only swimmer highlighted at the award ceremony, though. Sara Dowden and Zackary Gresham also received awards for Swimmers of the year. Both have also represented Grenada regionally and internationally and have had several record-breaking successes. The two have also already earned themselves B qualifying times for this year’s Pan Am Games scheduled for Santiago, Chile.

“Again, we are extremely proud of these swimmers and congratulate them on these achievements,” stated GASA.

Additionally, Ms Jomelar Billy was named as Grenada’s Volleyball Player of the year 2022, and the principal, staff and students of Paraclete Government School extended congratulations to Billy, their Physical Education teaching assistant.

Meanwhile, Grenada’s Sportsman of the Year was given to Javelin champion Anderson Peters. Grenada’s Sportswoman of the Year 2022 was announced as cricketer Afy Fletcher.

The winner of the People’s Choice Award for Outstanding Sportsperson in the Female category was awarded to footballer Roneisha Frank. In contrast, the winner of the People’s Choice Award for Outstanding Sportsperson in the Male category was awarded for tabling tennis champ Cedric Marquez.
