United Nations Supports Local Health Sector

The Princess Royal Hospital and clinics on Carriacou and Petite Martinique are now better equipped, following the receipt of a donation from the United Nations and the Pan America Health Organization.

Over US$100,000 of medical supplies and equipment have been received by the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government and distributed to the health facilities.

In August 2022, Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Didier Trebucq, visited Carriacou and gave a commitment to support developmental projects in the twin-isle parish.

Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Tevin Andrews, expressed gratitude to Mr. Trebucq and the Pan American Health Organization for their contribution towards the healthcare sector. The assistance, he said, will help in the overall improvement of the sector.

Some of the items received included stretchers, table econo-ultrasound, medical reception chairs and digitizers.

During last year’s visit, the Resident Coordinator used the opportunity to see firsthand three UN-backed projects: Hillsborough Smart Health Centre, Princess Royal Smart Hospital and Limlair Farm.
