Within just 45 minutes of launching, the groundbreaking Supercharged Training Series for Grenadian tourism professionals sold 10 out of 150 available seats – a new record for the CHTA Education Foundation who has been hosting trainings like this all over the Caribbean in recent years!
On March 22nd, 2023, St. George’s Grenada witnessed the thrilling launch of this highly anticipated training series, designed to turbocharge Grenada’s tourism sector. In partnership with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Education Foundation, the GHTA is hosting a diverse range of training events to sharpen tourism and hospitality skills.
The event was graced by Grenada’s Minister for Tourism Lennox Andrews, local accommodation and hospitality industry representatives, and other key stakeholders. GHTA CEO Arlene Friday couldn’t contain her excitement, emphasizing the importance of the training series for the industry.
“This training initiative is to reignite and recharge our industry; we are excited to partner along with the CHTA Education Foundation, who made all of this possible” said Arlene Friday
Scheduled for July 10th-21st, GHTA members can join for just $150, while non-members pay $200EC. Carriacou & Petite Martinique will be charged the non-member rate, with the first 24 registrants receiving a free ferry ride to Grenada and one night of complimentary accommodation.
Both GHTA President Kendra Hopkin and CHTA Education Foundation Chairwoman Karolin Troubetzkoy pledged their commitment to the success of this electrifying training series. In a surprise announcement, The Sandals Foundation was revealed as a significant sponsor, with the Tourism Enhancement Fund also making a substantial investment.
Entrepreneurs in the hospitality sector eagerly anticipate the series, with Restaurant Training and Advisory Services CEO Andre Church expressing gratitude for this opportunity. “I am very happy that we are having that conversation about training and really bettering the tourism industry on a whole” he said.
Minister Lennox Andrews was equally inspired, vowing to work harder for the industry. “What I’ve heard animated me, motivated me, stimulated me, captivated me and gave me a special drive to go back to my office and sit down and work” he remarked.
CHTA Education Foundation trainers, Suzanne Shillingford-Brooks and Louise John shared their enthusiasm for bringing new skills and knowledge to Grenada. “We are happy to be training quite a large range (of skills) in Grenada… and we really hope we get an excellent uptake for all these workshops,” said Suzanne.
The event successfully captivated the audience, leaving a powerful impact and a sense of elation as their voices were finally being heard. Many GHTA members have long called for comprehensive training across the sector, benefiting both large and small businesses alike.
They are now happy that this dream is now a reality.
