Educators Exposed To Training In Augmented Reality

A number of teachers and district IT officers in  Grenada have been exposed to training in Augmented Reality as part of efforts to improve their capacity in  technology integration in the OECS education system.

The training, which was facilitated by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture, in  collaboration with the OECS Digital Education Capacity Strengthening Initiative (DECI), was held at PB’s  Enterprise, Grenville, St. Andrew on March 20 and 21.

Facilitator, Kendell Daniel, CEO and co-founder of E-Learning Kings, says an advantage of augmented  reality is that it allows one to replace physical objects with 3-D objects. “Our hope is that teachers would  be able to use more of the modern technology that is available, such as AR, and the district IT officers – they would be in charge of continuous training of the different teachers throughout Grenada, Carriacou and  Petite Martinique,” Daniel said.

DECI Focal Point Kwame Hypolite is satisfied with what the workshop has accomplished. “The level of  engagement by the participants…it just augers well for what is to come in the pilot phase of this  programme.”

Some of the participating teachers and district IT officers say they feel empowered following the session,  and are eager to take wat they have learnt back to the classroom.

As part of this initiative, the St. Mary’s Catholic School, which is the pilot school in the project, will receive a set of 20 tablets and cases, for the benefit of students in Grades K-3, within the pilot.
