People in Carriacou and Petite Martinique no longer have to wait months to obtain their drivers’ license. The island now has its own licensing unit. It’s another campaign promise fulfilled by Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon Tevin Andrews.
Speaking at a special ceremony to commission the unit, Minister Andrews said this was made possible through funds utilized under his Special Projects.
Noting that it was a collaborative effort between himself and the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF), he was also high in praise for his Permanent Secretary Javan Williams, who was also instrumental by helping to fast-track the purchasing of the licensing unit.
Superintendent Solomon Stafford, RGPF Officer in Charge of the Northern District, gave the personal experience of his family members waiting over three months to get their new drivers’ licenses from Grenada. He said with the Traffic Department here now equipped with its own unit, time will be saved obtaining a license.
Permanent Secretary Williams also noted the efforts of Superintendent Randy Connaught in the establishing of the licensing unit.
Meanwhile, Minister Andrews has pledged to continue working with the RGPF to improve their working environment.
