World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on October 16 to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. Since 1981, World Food Day has adopted a different theme each year in order to highlight areas needed for action and provide a common focus.
For this year, the theme of World Food Day is – Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind. This year an entire week of activities has been orchestrated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The week kicks off with Monday being the Minister’s address and panel discussion at the Olympic Center. Tuesday 17th will be recognized as “we eating water” day which will consist of the distribution of foods that are high in water content at schools, supermarkets and bus terminals across the tri-island state. Wednesday and Friday will be virtual discussion days where the uses, conservation, pollution, and water management are to be talked about in depth. The week closes off on Friday 20th with a World Food Day Official Exhibition the day will be noticed as “Refreshing Friday”. There will be a national show of an array of local fruits and vegetables at Seaton James Street Grenville St. Andrew.
