West Indies Women ‘A’ experienced an eight-wicket loss against Pakistan Women ‘A’ in the final of the T20 tri-series at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.
Pakistan Women ‘A’ won the toss and opted to field first.
The West Indies Women ‘A’ side struggled against a Pakistan spin attack led by Rameen Shamim and could only manage 97-6 in its allotted 20 overs.
Rameen and fellow off-spinner Omaima Sohail both claimed two wickets, conceding 17 runs each, while left-arm spinners Saima Malik and Anosha Nasir each took a wicket.
Opening batter Qiana Joseph was the top scorer for West Indies Women ‘A,’ contributing 35 runs from 39 balls, including five fours.
Skipper Rashada Williams added 18 runs from 26 deliveries with one boundary, while Zaida James made 12 runs from 18 balls with two boundaries towards the end of the innings.
Shabika Gajnabi, who had retired hurt earlier in the innings, returned to the crease after the first wicket fell but was eventually bowled by Saima Malik for 10 runs.
Chasing a target of 98 runs, Pakistan Women ‘A’ achieved victory in just 15.5 overs while losing only two wickets. Shawaal Zulfiqar, who lost her opening partner Eyman Fatima early in the innings, played a crucial role in guiding her team to victory. She scored 39 runs from 38 deliveries, including four boundaries. Gull Feroza supported her with a run-a-ball 23, featuring three fours, and Omaima remained unbeaten with 20 runs from 23 balls, including a boundary.
West Indies ‘A’ bowlers Cherry-Ann Fraser (1-14) and Qiana Joseph (1-19) managed to take a wicket each.
West Indies Women had won the ODI series 2-1.
This tour marked the first visit by a West Indies Women ‘A’ team to Pakistan.
