The thirty-first OECS Swimming Championships begin tomorrow afternoon, Friday November 10th at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre in St. Lucia. The national team comprises thirty-four athletes accompanied by two coaches, Gerson Escobar and Chris Regis, along with other team officials.
Three of the athletes based abroad, along with a small contingent from Grenada have already landed in St. Lucia yesterday evening, while the final batch of contingent is scheduled to arrive today.
The thirty-four-member team comprises swimmers from six age groups: 8 and under male and female, 9 -10 male, and female, 11-12 male and female, 13-14 male and female, 15-17 male and female, and 18 and over male and female.
On Tuesday the Honourable Mr. Ron Redhead, Minister for Youth, Sports, and Culture, met with the swimmers at the Good Hope Swimming Pool, St. Paul’s to congratulate them and wish them well prior to their departure. Through the support received from the Government of Grenada with additional assistance from corporate Grenada, namely Ariza and Grensure the team is poised to travel and compete in the Games.
The athletes are in high spirits for the weekend’s competitions as they have been engaged in ongoing intense training and anticipate a positive outcome.
The weekend’s championships end on Sunday 12th November.
