Guyanese diplomat Dr Rudy Insanally has died.
He was 87 years old.
Insanally served as Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2001 to 2008 and was the Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
In 1993, he served as the 48th President of the United Nations General Assembly. Insanally was the first Caribbean person to hold the position.
President Dr Irfaan Ali sent condolences to Insanally’s family and remembered him as a “distinguished international statesman”.
“Dr Insanally’s diplomatic acumen and leadership have earned him deservedly the gratitude of our nation,” the president said.
