The Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM) is calling on the Government of Grenada to issue an apology to media workers. ACM in a statement said this follows its recent actions that led to the barring of media workers from the swearing-in of new Cabinet ministers on January 4, 2024.
The ACM says it supports the actions of the Media Association of Grenada (MWAG) in boycotting state events until a full apology is issued by the government.
The ACM views the recent actions as an act of disregard for the media and hopes that an apology along with an open media policy would guide the relationship between the government and the valued media workers.
Meanwhile, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has also expressed its concerns.
RSF in a post on X formerly known as Twitter said: “RSF was disappointed to see Grenada’s government bar reporters from covering its cabinet swearing-in ceremony last week. As the new cabinet takes power, it is essential for Grenada’s government to signal its commitment to press freedom and transparency going forward.”
Last week, the Media Workers Association of Grenada accused the Government of Grenada of showing contempt for local media and by extension the people of the country, by barring reporters and photographers from the swearing-in of new Cabinet ministers on January 4, 2024.
The Media Association called for an explanation and an apology.
