Farine Production Continues By The Division Of Agriculture

Farine production continues to be done by the Division of Agriculture within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government.

As part of the Agriculture Division’s agricultural revitalization program, more than three (3) acres of cassava have been under cultivation at the Dumfries Agricultural Station since 2010.

Agriculture Instructor Stanford Lawrence, in outlining the production process which starts with the planting of cassava sticks, emphasized the Division’s commitment to enhancing agricultural practices on the island.

Lawrence added that while farine production has been positively received by consumers, with sales being done to local vendors and households, there are plans to introduce new crops. Already, sweet potato and coconut are in production at the Dumfries Agricultural Station.

Farine is being sold at the Belair Nursery at $12 per pound.

Meanwhile, as Government continues to develop new and innovative ways for agriculture in the tri-island state, the Division of Agriculture within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs intends to extend its outreach activities to farmers here, with the aim of empowering them with the necessary knowledge and resources for sustainable farming practices.
