Integrated Land Management Project For Carriacou About To Commence

A plant propagation facility, for multiplication of planting material to support land restoration by farmers and community members, will be set up in Carriacou.

This is part of the Enhancing Land Management and Strengthening Ecosystem Resilience for Integrated Landscape Restoration and Climate-Resilient Food Systems Project.

To ensure all systems are in place for the roll out of the project, Task Manager of the United Nations Environment, Dr. Christopher Cox, and Chief Technical Officer at Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Development, Lakeram Singh, visited some of the proposed project sites.

Under the project, at least 250 hectares of grasslands and agricultural lands at Bellevue South and Dumfries are expected to be restored through soil and land conservation measures. Five (5) water conversation installations also will be done.

Bernard McIntosh, former Senior Agricultural Officer within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique and Affairs and Local Government, has been appointed as Project Manager.
