Trinidad and Tobago fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Grenada in their opening match of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Angus Eve’s men fell behind in the 24th minute when Myles Hippolyte converted a controversial penalty awarded by referee Mario Escobar of Guatemala.
Four minutes later, the T&T defence failed to deal effectively with another Grenada attack with Hippolyte smashing a volley home from outside the area.
Grenada failed to add a third goal despite several excellent chances before Trinidad and Tobago roared back late in the first half.
Levi Garcia combined well with Noah Powder who slid in a return pass for Ryan Telfer to fire into the back of the net.
Trinidad and Tobago, despite losing Garcia in the second half to an injury, turned in a better performance in the second half.
They drew level in the 74th minute with a long ball that Telfer headed into the pathway of Reon Moore.
The Pacific FC striker took the ball beyond the last defender and smashed it in at the near post to draw T&T level at 2-2.
Both teams had chances to win the game in the last few minutes but the score stayed at 2-2.
Trinidad and Tobago will play the Bahamas on 8 June with Grenada taking on Costa Rica on 9 June.
Grenada’s last win in international play came against St Vincent and the Grenadines in October 2022.
