More Than 97% Of Electricity Customers Restored On Mainland Grenada

Following the passage of Hurricane Beryl one week ago, Grenlec is pleased to announce that over 97% of electricity customers on mainland Grenada have had their power restored.

Our dedicated team members went to work immediately after the storm subsided, prioritising the assessment of damage and the restoration of critical facilities and commercial centres.

Fewer than 2,000 customers remain without electricity, with the majority located in the northern part of the mainland, particularly in St Patrick. These areas experienced significant damage, and Grenlec urges residents to assist by providing clear access to their properties where there are fallen trees and debris.

Grenlec’s restoration efforts will receive a significant boost with the support of the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC). We are happy to announce the arrival of the first regional support crew from St Lucia later today. We welcome them and appreciate their assistance as we work towards reconnecting and supplying electricity to all customers over the next 2 weeks.

Salvage and restoration work is already underway in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Housing is being prepared at Dumfries for crews from Grenada and other regional islands. These crews will begin arriving in Carriacou this week to assist the team in Carriacou and Petite Martinique with rebuilding the electricity infrastructure.

We also want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the Grenlec team members and retirees involved in the restoration efforts. Their dedication and hard work, involving extraordinary hours and in spite of their personal challenges, have been instrumental in achieving this significant progress.

Grenlec remains committed to restoring full service to all affected areas as swiftly and safely as possible. We thank our customers for their patience and cooperation during this challenging time.
