Government To Implement Fiscal Incentives In The Aftermath Of Hurricane Beryl

The Government of Grenada is pleased to announce the first phase of fiscal incentives designed to benefit the citizens of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique, who were mostly affected by Hurricane Beryl.
These new fiscal incentives will include 100% duty and tax exemptions (including Customs Service Charge, Port Charges, and Stamp Duties) on food, clothing, small household appliances, linen and bedding items, toiletries, sanitary products (adults and children), and household cleaning supplies imported into the State of Grenada in boxes, barrels, and crates (hereinafter referred to as “Barrels”). The items to be imported are not to be for commercial use or resale and are limited to two (2) barrels per household.
The removal of duties and taxes will apply to barrels cleared on or after July 22, 2024, until December 31, 2024. This initiative is hereinafter referred to as the “free barrel” program. Administrative Procedures The administrative process for clearing the barrels remains the same, except that importers would not be required to pay the usual duties, taxes, and fees. Please note that items will still be valued by a Customs Officer and so invoices, and other documentation are still required. Note that importers must present at least one of the following forms of identification to have their items cleared – Driver’s License, Passport, Voter’s Registration card, or NIS card.
Limitations Relief from duties, taxes, and fees is granted on two (2) barrels per household. Imports above this limit will be subject to duties and taxes, as is customary.
Importers are advised that making a false declaration to Customs is a serious offense and may result in fines and penalties.
