Non-Profit Organization Supports Rebuilding Efforts

Twenty-seven (27) families in Carriacou will benefit from new houses, thanks to volunteers of a non-profit organization from Trinidad and Tobago.

Hands that Serve will be constructing prefabricated houses. The fully furnished three-bedroom homes will include bathroom facilities and supplies, as well as beds and stoves.

Members of the organization paid a preliminary visit to Carriacou, where they looked at various sites as possible locations for the houses.

Almost 95% of the housing stock on Carriacou and Petite Martinique was destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon. Tevin Andrews; Minister for Mobilisation, Implementation and Transformation, Hon. Andy Williams; and Minister responsible for Housing, Senator the Hon. Gloria Thomas, were part of the sites’ tour by Hands that Serve.

Minister Thomas expressed appreciation for the assistance as the Government continues to work with local, regional and international organizations to rebuild the twin-isle constituency of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
