New Programme Launched To Benefit Unemployed And Under-Employed Young Women

The Division of Youth in the Ministry of Youth and  Sports announces the launch of “Elevate Her”, a transformative initiative designed to empower unemployed and underemployed young women in Grenada.

The Ministry officially commenced registration for the programme in St. George’s this  week, with outreach to other parishes soon. Early in the New Year, the programme will  be launched in Carriacou to ensure inclusivity and representation across Grenada,  Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.

Objectives of “Elevate Her”

The “Elevate Her” programme is tailored to address the unique challenges faced by  young women ages 18-35 by:

∙ Providing second chance opportunities to females who were unable to complete primary, secondary and/or tertiary level education.

∙ Equipping participants with nationally recognised qualifications to meet  labour market needs.

∙ Upskilling and empowering participants by providing mentoring, essential  life skills training, business development support, personal and professional  development.

∙ Ensuring participants’ employment by securing job placements or business  start-up support.

∙ Providing a clear and fixed timeline for training, to ensure efficient skill  acquisition and entry into the workforce.

“Elevate Her” was born from persistent appeals by young women seeking opportunities  for advancement explained, Ms. Carlene Perryman, Coordinator of Youth in the Ministry  of Youth and Sports. She stated that “The Division of Youth has listened to the voices of  Grenada’s young women. ‘Elevate Her’ is our response to their call—a programme

specifically designed to prepare them not only for the job market but also for life.”

The “Elevate Her” programme is aligned with the Grenada National Sustainable  Development Plan (NSDP) 2020-2035, directly supporting its pillars of human capital  development and youth employment. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment  to providing second-chance opportunities for youth and reducing unemployment,  ensuring Grenada’s women are positioned for sustainable livelihoods.

Young women interested in joining this empowering programme are encouraged to  register at designated centres across the nation. The Division of Youth will continue its  parish-based registration to ensure accessibility for all eligible participants.

The Division of Youth is committed to empowering Grenada’s young people through  programmes and initiatives that promote education, skills development, and  entrepreneurship, contributing to the overall development of the nation.
