On 5 December, over 1,000 registered voters cast their ballots via an online platform, selecting the candidates they believed would best represent their constituencies.
This historic election has given rise to the first elected cohort of National Youth Parliamentarians, who will now advocate on behalf of their communities and actively contribute to local development.
A swearing-in ceremony will be held for the 14 elected candidates in 2025.
Once sworn in, the elected Youth Parliamentarians will represent their constituents at the National Youth Parliament, amplifying the voice of the youth, demonstrating the value of youth leadership, and seeking and advising policymakers on how to create and provide more opportunities for Grenada’s young people.
Each parliamentarian will also have access to an EC$5,000 Community Support Grant to implement impactful projects in their constituencies.
To further prepare these youth leaders for future roles, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will provide mentorship opportunities and continuous training through workshops designed to strengthen their leadership potential. This pilot project underscores the ministry’s unwavering commitment to youth leadership and advocacy.
Lessons from this programme will influence adjustments for the next National Youth Elections, which are scheduled for 2 years from now.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports congratulates the elected youth leaders on this significant achievement as they prepare to represent their constituents as National Youth Parliamentarians for the next 2 years.
