On November 22, High Commissioner Rachér Croney attended the inaugural African Caribbean Sustainability and Investment Summit (ACSIS) held in London. The three-day summit brought together key stakeholders from the African and Caribbean business community to discuss, explore and strategize sustainable trade and investment opportunities across several sectors, including climate resilience, renewable energy, and tourism. With a focus on sustainability, the event was held under the theme, ‘Leveraging the African, Caribbean and UK Business Opportunities: Investing in a Sustainable Future.’ The Summit sought to recognize the role of African and Caribbean businesses in the diaspora, identify how they can contribute to sustainable economic development, help mitigate the climate crisis, build strategic partnerships and leverage business opportunities with key stakeholders across the UK, Africa, and the Caribbean.
Over the three days industry experts discussed challenges, opportunities, and solutions towards building sustainable development and strengthening the connections between the African and Caribbean region as natural trading partners. Businesses within the diaspora also highlighted the work they are doing, and the scalability of projects that can address the needs across both regions.
Some of the discussions focused on sustainable relationships for growth and resilience, the need for transformative leadership, elevating our common culture to create a common future, the power of the diaspora engagement for growth, power and energy solutions and sustainability and innovation as levers for economic growth in the global south.
High Commissioner Rachér Croney participated in the panel on ‘Creating Equitable Tourism Destinations: Leveraging Diaspora Investment for Community-Led Development.’ The High Commissioner discussed Grenada’s efforts to promote sustainable tourism development, the innovative ways in which communities maintain the authenticity of our tourism product, initiatives geared at ensuring development enhances rather than deplete local cultural practices, and how diaspora investment can be channelled into Grenada. She noted that, “to maintain the authenticity and Pure Grenada brand, it is a country-wide effort which involves working with communities and not in isolation of them, and this is what resonates with the diaspora and many visitors to our country.”
Her Excellency Rachér Croney also did an interview on the sidelines of the Summit with The Southern African Times on strengthening the relationship between the Caribbean and African region and driving trade and investment within the global south.
