Asecond batch of heavy-duty equipment designed to enhance the processing of waste in Grenada has arrived on the island.
This shipment marks the largest single investment in the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority (GSWMA) by any government to date the Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy said in a statement, adding this underscores the administration’s steadfast commitment to modernising waste management and environmental sustainability on the island.
The new equipment, which arrived at Port St George on December 23, 2024, includes an industrial metal baler for recycling, a semi-truck and low-boy trailer to support heavy hauling and transportation of equipment and additional smaller equipment to streamline operations.
In addition to the heavy equipment, Grenada will also receive storage bins to foster effective waste-handling practices.
In the coming weeks, these assets will be relocated from Port St George to a temporary storage site, where they will remain until their scheduled shipment to Carriacou in January 2025 the statement informed.
This strategic rollout will provide critical upgrades to infrastructure, particularly in Carriacou, where efforts to improve waste processing and sustainability are already underway.
The ministry says the investment reflects the government’s broader vision for a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Grenada.
“We are thrilled to see these essential tools arrive, especially during this season of reflection and renewal,” said Kerryne James, Minister for Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy.
“It represents not only progress but also a promise to continue advancing our waste management systems in line with global standards.”
The next phase of equipment deployment is expected in January 2025.
