Minister Kerryne James Leads High-Level Meeting With The UK Delegation To Advance Energy Cooperation

St. George’s, Grenada – Hon. Minister Kerryne James accompanied by Permanent Secretary, Ms. Peron Johnson and Director of Renewable Energy Mr. Leslie Smith, met with a high-level delegation from the UK to advance strategic areas of cooperation in the renewable energy and related sectors on the margin of Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) 2025, currently on-going in Miami USA.
The UK delegation included:
– The Honourable Minister McCarthy, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)
– Ms.Lottie Cantle, Deputy Director, DESNZ
– Mr.Edward Whattoff, Private Secretary, DESNZ
– Ms. Simon Kirkland, Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), DESNZ
Ms. Ingrid Lavine, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring collaborative opportunities in key areas such as renewable energy development, energy efficiency, climate resilience, and technical capacity building. Both parties discussed Grenada’s current energy transition initiatives and the importance of sustainable partnerships to achieve national and global climate goals.
Minister James expressed appreciation for the continued financial support and engagement of the UK Government, noting that such collaboration is critical to advancing Grenada’s vision of a low-carbon, resilient energy future.
The UK delegation reiterated their commitment to supporting Small Island Developing States like Grenada through tailored policy engagement, funding access, and technical cooperation. In this context, Minister James and her delegation were apprised of two separate grant funding opportunities available to Grenada, each designed to advance the country’s renewable energy objectives and support its broader sustainable development agenda.
This meeting marks a significant step forward in deepening UK-Grenada co-operation and leveraging strategic partnerships for national development.
