Grenada has officially been announced as the host nation for the 2026 CARIFTA Games, one of the region’s most prestigious junior athletics championships. The announcement, shared by Minister for Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Delma Thomas, via Facebook, marks a moment of national pride and renewed sporting ambition for the small but spirited island.
“It’s official—Grenada will once again host the region’s premier junior athletics championship in 2026!” Minister Thomas posted. “Let the road to CARIFTA 2026 begin!”
The games are expected to return to the state-of-the-art Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. George’s, which previously hosted the event in 2000,2016 and 2024. This marks Grenada’s fourth time hosting the CARIFTA Games, further cementing its reputation as a formidable and enthusiastic host of regional sports.
The CARIFTA Games have long served as a launching pad for some of the Caribbean’s top athletes—including Grenada’s own Olympic gold medallist, Kirani James. Hosting the games once more offers young Grenadian athletes the chance to shine on home soil and draw inspiration from the region’s finest competitors.
