The Spiceboyz head outside of the Concacaf region to UEFA to play two important\u00a0 international friendlies this month as part of ongoing preparations for the Concacaf Nations\u00a0 League. The Senior Men\u2019s National Team (SMNT) will play Gibraltar on March 23 at Victoria\u00a0 National Stadium at 6pm (GMT+1- 1pm in Grenada) and Andorra on the 28th\u00a0at Estadi National\u00a0 Stadium at 8pm (3pm in Grenada). Gibraltar sits at 203 in the FIFA rankings while Andorra is\u00a0 ranked 155 as of February 10,2022.<\/p>\n
Coming out of the recent camp held in January in the USA, the Senior Men\u2019s National Team Head\u00a0 Coach and staff were able to assess and develop a number of players who will go on to feature\u00a0 in the squad for the March friendlies.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead to the matches, Senior Men\u2019s National Coach Michael Findlay said, \u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0 extremely excited about the upcoming matches vs Gibraltar and Andorra in the March FIFA dates.\u00a0 This provides the program with the opportunity to compete against UEFA based nations in our\u00a0 continued build up to the 2022 Concacaf Nations League in June. These matches are a critical\u00a0 part of our 2022 overall plan for the SMNT which includes a regionally focused evaluation process\u00a0 of our squad and the chance to engage in competitive matches vs recognized nations to assist in\u00a0 raising our overall performance standards.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further stated, \u201cThis is also the first time the Grenada Senior Men\u2019s National Team has\u00a0 travelled and competed outside the Concacaf region which provides us with those key\u00a0 experiential moments on and off the field and sends a message to our competitors that Grenada\u00a0 is serious about our long term plan and the overall growth of our program within the Concacaf\u00a0 region as we enter the bottom of the next cycle on the road to 2026 FIFA World Cup\u00a0 Qualification.\u201d<\/p>\n
Coach of the Andorra National Men\u2019s Team Koldo Alvarez de Eulate is excited for the upcoming\u00a0 fixture saying, \u201cGrenada is a very strong team. It is growing a lot and improving, as we saw in the\u00a0 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the last Qualifiers. They are very strong physically and have a very high\u00a0 pace of play. For us it will be a very demanding game, but we will try to counteract all these\u00a0 virtues with our game.\u201d<\/p>\n
President of the GFA Cheney Joseph wished the Senior Men\u2019s National Team the best on their\u00a0 historic journey and said, \u201c The Senior Men\u2019s National Team is on a transformative pathway and we are looking forward to seeing the team\u2019s performance in the UEFA region. The cultural and\u00a0 technical exchanges will be very beneficial for the growth of the team and the programme set\u00a0 for the rest of the year as we look ahead to the Concacaf Nation\u2019s League later this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 2022 Competition windows are June and September for the Concacaf Nations League.\u00a0 Grenada will compete in League A along with the USA, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Panama, El\u00a0 Salvador, Honduras, Jamaica, Suriname, Martinique and Curacao.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
