Grenada\u2019s Prime Minister,\u00a0Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, has\u00a0\u00a0extended hearty congratulations to the West Indies cricket team following their\u00a0\u00a0resounding victory in the third and final test against England, in Grenada on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mitchell, an ardent cricket fan and former national player, had accurately predicted\u00a0\u00a0that there will be a definitive result in the third test, following draws in the first two games.<\/p>\n
He described it as an excellent victory saying, \u201cThe overall performance of the team is\u00a0\u00a0something to treasure. The standard of play on both sides was commendable with the\u00a0\u00a0teams showing a fighting spirit. This is a good win for the West Indies and we welcome\u00a0\u00a0the victory.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister is keen to see more consistent wins by the regional cricket team.\u00a0\u201cEvery time they win, we think that will be a turnaround in their performance, but they\u00a0\u00a0have let us down a lot, so we wait to see. But overall, this win is good for the team, it\u2019s\u00a0\u00a0good for the Caribbean and I\u2019m happy that it happened in Grenada.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister commended Grenadians for the level of support given to the regional\u00a0\u00a0team. Sharing feedback he has received, Dr. Mitchell said, \u201cPlayers and fans have been\u00a0\u00a0saying this is the best place they\u2019ve been in terms of the support among the fans and the\u00a0\u00a0attitude of the people, how accommodating they have been. But I\u2019m really not surprised,\u00a0\u00a0that\u2019s the true Grenadian spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cEven the regional players complimented the country saying in the games\u00a0\u00a0played during the pandemic, players had to literally cheer themselves, but here in\u00a0\u00a0Grenada, they felt the presence of the crowd and were motivated by the constant\u00a0\u00a0cheering.\u201d<\/p>\n
With respect to economic spinoffs, Dr. Mitchell said the match was a tremendous boost\u00a0\u00a0for the economy, particularly the accommodation and small business sectors.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cThe Government made the right move to invest in this game, there are\u00a0\u00a0absolutely no regrets, it has been a good boost for cricket fans, the people generally and\u00a0\u00a0the business sector. Given the impact of the pandemic over the last two years, the people\u00a0\u00a0and the country needed that.\u201d<\/p>\n
