Grenada\u2019s Prime Minister and Chairman of the OECS Authority,\u00a0Dr. the\u00a0\u00a0Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, has extended condolences to the Government and\u00a0\u00a0people of St. Kitts and Nevis and the family of the late Vance Amory, following his sudden\u00a0\u00a0passing over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Mr. Amory, a former Premier of Nevis, was serving as an ambassador at the time of his\u00a0\u00a0death. Dr. Mitchell last interacted with Ambassador Amory at the CARICOM Heads of\u00a0\u00a0Government meeting in Belize, in early March.<\/p>\n
Paying tribute to the deceased, Dr. Mitchell said, \u201cVance gave yeoman service to his\u00a0\u00a0country and people. He was very passionate about the development of Nevis and\u00a0\u00a0accomplished much during his years of service. In his most recent capacity, Vance\u00a0\u00a0continued to represent his country at the highest level, and would long be remembered\u00a0\u00a0for his valuable contributions to discussions on regional developments at both the OECS\u00a0\u00a0and CARICOM levels.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although they served long years as politicians in their respective countries, the\u00a0\u00a0relationship between Dr. Mitchell and Ambassador Amory started long before they\u00a0\u00a0entered the political arena and extended way beyond political discourse.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mitchell explained that he first met Vance in the late 1960s when they were members\u00a0\u00a0of the Combined Islands Cricket Team.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister recalled, \u201cWhenever he greeted me, he called me \u2018skipper\u2019 because\u00a0\u00a0when we first met, I was the captain of the Combined Islands cricket team and he was\u00a0\u00a0the opening batsman. We attended UWI Cave Hill together and again played for the UWI\u00a0\u00a0cricket team which I also captained. So we have this long history of sports, academics\u00a0\u00a0and politics and the relationship was sustained over many years. I will certainly miss our\u00a0\u00a0very engaging discussions which invariably always touched on the game we both loved.\u00a0\u00a0Vance will be missed and I pray that he finds eternal rest and that his family is comforted\u00a0\u00a0during this time of grief.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
